Hello I’m Local | Boutique/Hostel

We recommend a hostel, named ´I´m local´, situated in Haarlem, 8 minutes walk to the PHIL (Summit location). They have dorms, rooms for 2, 4 and 6. It is by far the cheapest accomodation in the neighborhood. We will recommend this place to many participants of the 2024 EFT World Summit.

  • The Netherlands translates to “the lowlands” and there’s no secret how our country got its name! It is the most low-lying country in Europe, with almost one-third of it below sea level.
  • Amsterdam has over 1,200 bridges to connect its 165 canals and is mostly build on wooden poles.
  • The Netherlands was the first country to legalize same-sex marriage on the 1st of April 2001. 
  • Dutch men are the world’s tallest people. The average height for Dutch men is 183 cm (6ft).
  • The Netherlands is biggest flower exporter in the world. 
  • The Dutch own more bicycles than any other country in the world. There’s an average of 1.3 bicycles per person. We use bicycles for over 25% of all trips, and you will see plenty ‘bakfietsen’, a clever combination of a bike and a wheelbarrow, perfect for transporting kids to school.
  • The Dutch national anthem is the oldest in the world, it dates back to 1570.

    Haarlem

    Friendly Haarlem may be the ultimate Dutch city. It’s compact, historic and on cycling distance to the sea. Visiting the city brings you architecture, museums and dreamy cobbled streets. Throw in the EFT World Summit, great shopping, nice cafés and excellent restaurants in the mix and you’ll see why Haarlem is a gem.

    Book your ticket to Amsterdam – Schiphol Airport. The city of Haarlem is only a 20 minutes (Uber)drive from Schiphol Airport. You can find a place to stay on mainstream websites such as booking.com or airbnb.com. Haarlem is one of the big cities of the Netherlands, so you can find hundreds of places to stay, from small boutique hotels, to the bigger brands or lovely authentic Dutch appartments. Whatever your budget, we assure you it’s easy to find a great place to stay during the Summit.

    Amsterdam

    It’s just a 30 minutes drive or 22 minute trainride away! Experience the worldfamous Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Moco Museum or the Anne Frank House. Sit back and relax on a canalboat, and enjoy the most beautiful sights and angles from the water up.

    Spectacular historic architecture and fun stories about the city guaranteed. Watch out where you walk, there are cyclist and trams everywhere.

    Utrecht

    For a more authentic Dutch experience, visit Utrecht inthe middle of Holland. This big city is a real beauty and also houses the office of EFT Netherlands. In Utrecht you can taste it’s laidback and artistic culture and lively atmosphere. Prepare for pretty canals, awing kathedrals and a lot of cosy shopping in the historical city centre.

    Pro tip: take a bus to ‘Theehuis Reijnauwen’ in the forest and eat the famous Dutch pancakes Rent a canoe if you feel like you need to clear your mind in nature – or if you’re up for a work-out- you can canoe back to the city centre through woodland and meadows, it’s absolutely breathtaking. Or visit Castle De Haar, well worthed.

    Touristic places in the Netherlands

    The Dutch islands, De Waddeneilanden

    If you love nature and want an unique experience, get on a ferry and visit the wonderful ‘Waddeneilanden’ (Unesco World Herritage). On our islands you will find long stretches of practically empty beaches, large dunes and amazing sunrises (make use of that jetlag). Go for a swim, take a trip to watch the seals, feel the sand between your feet and have a drink, while you watch the sun set in the sea. You might never want to leave. Read about De Waddeneilanden.

    National Parc de Hoge Veluwe

    Visit our biggest National Parc, de Hoge Veluwe, home to a wide diversity of plants and wildlife. Get your free bikes at the entrance, take a picknick and spend the day exploring the beautiful sand drifts, dry heaths, forest and fens. While you’re there, make sure you visit Kröller Muller museum, home to the world’s finest Vincent van Gogh collection and masterpieces by modern masters such as Claude Monet, Georges Seurat, Pablo Picasso and Piet MondriaanRead about the museum.
